Caring for a child on the spectrum can be challenging, and it often involves thinking and looking outside the box for things that work. Whether a child is on the spectrum or not, each child is unique, has a unique way of looking at, interacting with and understanding the world around them, but for kids with autism this relationship may be a bit different. Here at Sensory Taekwon-Do, we offer plenty of engaging programs for kids with learning disabilities, behavioral concerns, and children on the spectrum, including an autism after school program in Teaneck.
Parents of kids who are on the spectrum will know just how challenging certain aspects of everyday life can be for their child, but we here at Sensory Taekwon-Do we take all of that into consideration. Before starting any program, we meet with children and talk to their parents, figuring out what sort of program and teaching style will work best for them in order to get the most out of it. Our director, Dr. Kerry Escamilla, D.C., has advanced training in neurology and functional medicine with an emphasis on early childhood spectrum disorders. Our second degree black belt, Dr. Kerry, is also familiar with martial arts as well as its benefits for children who are on the spectrum. Our autism after school program in Teaneck, as well as our other programs and activities, incorporate a whole brain/whole body approach that has shown to improve concentration and focus in many children. By providing a consistent and highly structured environment where we engage with all five of the senses, kids can learn to center themselves as well as find their center. We accept kids with autism, PDD, aspergers, ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, and dyspraxia and much more.
